Willpower Strength & Rehab · Branford, CT
1:1 Physical TherapyFitness forward physical therapy for fitness focused individuals. Your rehab fits around your training — not the other way around.
Standard PT tells you to rest and come back in 6 weeks. That doesn't work if you train every day.
WPSR is built around one principle: you can fix the problem and keep training at the same time. If you're dealing with shoulder, knee, hip, or back pain that flares when you lift — and sitting it out isn't an option — this practice was built for you.
Persistent aches that flare on the snatch, press, deadlift, or box jump. You've been taping it and hoping it goes away.
A doctor or previous PT said to rest it out. You're here because "just stop training" isn't a real answer.
Not "it's inflamed, avoid it." An actual diagnosis — what's broken, why it's broken, and exactly what fixing it looks like.
A HYROX race, a CrossFit Open, a strength milestone. Your rehab is built around what you're training for — not against it.
Every session is one-on-one with Dr. Murtagh. No techs, no aides, no handoffs. You always know what we're doing and why.
This is the same four-step process used with every athlete. The goal is to get you back to full training as quickly as possible — without pulling you out of the gym while we do it.
Free 20-minute conversation. We talk through what's happening, what you're training for, and whether this is the right fit.
A thorough movement and injury assessment. We find the root cause — not just where it hurts.
Your program is built around your CrossFit or HYROX schedule. You keep moving while we fix the underlying problem.
Pain-free isn't the finish line. We build back strength, durability, and confidence under load — so it doesn't come back.
"I rehabbed herniated discs and a rotator cuff tear while keeping my CrossFit and HYROX training going. That experience is behind every plan I write."
Most PTs will tell you to rest. I know what it actually takes to train through an injury intelligently — because I've done it myself. Two herniated discs. A rotator cuff tear. Both times, I kept training. Both times, I came back stronger.
That experience shaped how I work with every athlete who walks through the door. We don't pull you out of the gym and hope for the best. We figure out the root cause, load it intelligently, and build a plan that fits around your actual training schedule.

WPSR is a cash-based, out-of-network practice. We don't bill insurance directly. Many patients use HSA or FSA funds, and we provide a superbill you can submit for out-of-network reimbursement. In return: no limits on session length, no prior authorizations, and you always see Dr. Murtagh — never a tech or aide.
Insurance dictates session length, visit frequency, and which treatments get covered. Cash-based means the plan is built around what you actually need — not what fits a billing code. Sessions run as long as they need to. The focus is on getting you better as fast as possible, not stretching visits to fill an authorization window.
No. Connecticut allows direct access to physical therapy — you can book and be seen without a physician referral. If the evaluation reveals anything that warrants medical follow-up, you'll hear about it directly.
Every session is one-on-one with Dr. Murtagh from start to finish — no waiting room handoff to a tech. Depending on where you are in the process, a session might include hands-on manual therapy, movement assessment, loading progressions, or a review of how your training week went. You'll always leave knowing what we found, what we're targeting, and why.
Almost certainly not. The entire model is built around keeping you in the gym. We work with your coach and your programming to make intelligent modifications — so you keep training, keep building fitness, and keep competing while we address the underlying problem. Complete rest is rarely the right answer for trained athletes, and it's almost never the answer here.
Remote strength coaching and programming is available worldwide. If you're outside CT, book the discovery call — we'll figure out what's possible from there.
A free 20-minute call to talk through what's going on. No sales pitch — just a straight answer on what's happening, whether this is the right fit, and what the path forward looks like.
